At Steaddi, our goal is to make strong wool a staple in the streetwear industry.

Did you know that 80% of our wool in New Zealand is strong wool, not it's commonly known counterpart, Merino?

"So what is strong wool?" you may ask.

Strong wool is a lesser-known thicker fibre that is often overlooked. This fibre does not have enough uses compared to its fine counterpart; merino, therefore farmers often struggle to sell it.

This is where Steaddi comes in. We aim to create strong wool a staple in streetwear, and strive to make sustainable and ethical products the baseline.

Who are we?

Steaddi was founded on the belief of promoting streetwear that looks good, is good for the planet and provides value to wool. Originating as an Auckland University of Technology project tackling challenges within the New Zealand Wool industry, it then blossomed into a business with the support of AUT Ventures.

So why Woo Lace?

The Woo Lace is a biodegradable shoelace, made completely here in Aotearoa. Our wool comes from Palliser Ridge, a farm in the South Wairarapa, it is then knitted in Tauranga, and tipped with cellulose acetate bio plastic aglets in West Auckland. Out laces are eco dyed with all sorts of produce, such as onion skins and red cabbage. We release each of these dye batches with a unique number. This is because once a lace is made, we can never perfectly replicate that batch again, creating a sense of personality to each pair. Collection one features the #001 dyed with Bok Choy, #002 with onion skins, and #003 & #004 with red cabbage.

A word from the creator

With Steaddi I aim to create meaningful change in the fashion industry while bringing value to New Zealand's most famous material. Sustainability and ethical production should be a baseline that every product has. I want to create a brand that looks and feels great but stands for something bigger. The Woo Lace exemplifies this mission, transformig an everyday item into a catalyst for positive environmental chane. The Woo Lace is just the beginning of the mission to bring strong wool to the frontline of Aotearoa fashion.

I hope you enjoy the Woo Lace as much as I do. I hope to be able to create a new era of streetwear where thoughtful design is at the center, and sustainability is the baseline.
